According to the Yonhap News Agency, “South Korea’s expatriate population, including foreigners staying here illegally and for short-term periods, reached 1,000,254 as of Friday, breaking the 1 million mark for the first time.”
Well, how about that? Over one million expatriates in Korea.
I wonder if there’s anyway to figure out who the one-millionth expat was and if so, does he or she get any prizes?
You know, there was a time in the not-so-distant-past—1993—to be specific, when I started teaching at Yonsei that I could, on a number of occasions, count the number of foreigners I would run into in Shinch’on on one hand.
One million plus expats in Korea. Wow.
