No Shirt, No Shoes, No Dice

Learn it.

Know it.

Live it.

A classic scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High that I thought about this morning during a lesson about “dress codes.” One of the questions my students were asking each other was “have you ever been refused service in a restaurant or store?” One student asked me what exactly did the question mean and I explained that if you were not dressed appropriately, you could, as in the case of Spicoli and his friends, be refused service.

Who would have thought that one day, Fast Times at Ridgemont High would be part of an English lesson in Korea?

You would only think that this would only happen in a fancy restaurant. My uncle from France ate at a restaurant in NYC and he didn’t have a jacket on and they gave him a loaner.
