Picture of the Day: Sawasdee Khrap Ronald McDonald

Got to hand it to the folks who’ve brought us the Big Mac, Happy Meal, and Shamrock Shakes, they know how to market their product overseas, in this case that ubiquitous symbol of fast food around the world, Ronald McDonald who is seen here, outside a McDonald’s in Phuket, Thailand making a “wai” the traditional greeting in Thailand–with both hands clasped together to resemble a lotus.

Very neat photo, I’ve not seen one like this with his hands in a Wai position.

I wonder if McDonald’s or KFC will ever come to Laos? Now that there is the Pizza Company in Vientiane, maybe McDonald’s is on the horizon.

You’ll never find me at any McDonald’s if I’m in Laos or Thailand. No way, I’ll be eating those greasy burger when I can have bunch of tasty local dishes.

I know what you mean, but I am kind of in an unusual position here in Korea–I don’t get a chance to eat hardly any “western” food as well as other foods that I enjoy like Indian, Greek, Mexican, Thai, and German. It has been over three years since I last was in America and I do miss a lot of American food. While Mickey D’s and KFC hardly constitutes “American food” after all these years, I still do enjoy my burgers, fries, and fried chicken. So, give me my burgers and my spicy papaya salad!

Does anyone know if McDonald’s in Bangkok has Shamrock Shakes?

I’ve never seen any in all my travels to Thailand.
